It is hard to imagine that this cancer journey actually started just before Christmas 2007. That will be 3 years this coming December. I made a list of most of the medications that were prescribed for me beginning chronologically at the bottom of the list working up. The reason I am making the list is because I am curious as to what precipitated the loss of my hair after this adventure began. Not the hair on my head, but rather my back, my legs, chest, and my arms. There is still some left on my legs, arms, and chest, but not even close to what was there before.

It is funny how I discovered my loss. My wife who has a very keen memory of my hairy back was almost shocked when she noticed that my back was hair barren. (I say barren because the back hair is not growing back.) This was after about a year from the time this whole cancer heart thing started. I don’t know if I have any pictures hanging around with me and my hairy back, but I do have a recent video and post showing and explaining how I used Atomidine Iodine to fight skin cancer and blemishes.

Here is the list of most of the meds:

TAMSULOSIN HCL 0.4MG CAP
GOSERELIN ACETATE IMPLANT, 10.8MG 11/27/2008
ATORVASTATIN CALCIUM 80MG TAB
ASPIRIN 325MG EC TAB
AMOXICILLIN 500MG CAP
ALLOPURINOL 100MG TAB
LISINOPRIL 2.5MG TAB
METOPROLOL SUCCINATE 25MG SA TAB
SIMVASTATIN 80MG TAB
METOPROLOL SUCCINATE 100MG SA TAB
FINASTERIDE 5MG TAB
GOSERELIN 10.8MG IMPLANT 3-MONTH
LISINOPRIL 5MG TAB
TERAZOSIN HCL 5MG CAP
LOVASTATIN 40MG TAB
TERAZOSIN HCL 2MG CAP
BICALUTAMIDE (Casodex) 50MG TAB
OXYCODONE 5MG & ACETAMINOPHEN 325MG TAB
PREDNISONE 20MG TAB
TERAZOSIN HCL 5MG CAP
CIPROFLOXACIN HCL 500MG TAB
LOVASTATIN 40MG TAB
LOVASTATIN 20MG TAB
TERAZOSIN HCL 2MG CAP
SIMVASTATIN 80MG TAB
LISINOPRIL 10MG TAB
METOPROLOL SUCCINATE 100MG SA TAB
ASPIRIN 325MG TAB
DILTIAZEM (INWOOD) 180MG SA CAP
TERAZOSIN HCL 1MG CAP
DILTIAZEM (INWOOD) 120MG SA CAP 12/20/2007

It is kind of weird looking at this list of medications. It brings back memories.

I would think that the hormone therapy meds like the Goserelin implant and Casodex may be candidates for hair loss. After all this meds were designed to block my testosterone. I believe some transgender folks have used hormone therapy to try and get rid of some of their body hair. But what the heck, I also heard that some of the statins like lipitor and lovastatin used to control cholestrol readings may also play a role in body hair loss.

Of course, my body hair loss may have been caused because my age then was 64 years old. But. . . I don’t think so! Another thing that may have played a role were all those xrays that were taken of my pelvic area – I would guess close to 20 were taken. Those full body scans which required me drink some sort of cocktail designed to show the cancer trouble spots also may have played a part. I just don’t know. My guess is that it was a combination of the hormone therapy and the statins. Hopefully, my shiny back will once again grow some hair.

By the way, I have been off of the statins and the hormone meds for almost two years. It has also been almost two years since I have been seen by an oncologist, cardiologist, or primary care physician. Alkaline diet and alklaine substances have been good for me! . . . . Good Night!

One of the questions that I have asked mySelf the last couple years is, “How do you become the person who allows a healing to take affect?” In other words, why is it that some people will undergo the same treatment for a disease as others, yet not all are ‘cured’ or ‘healed.’ What is it? What is that ingredient the ‘healed’ people have grasped intentionally or unintentionally? I am not sure, and that is the reason for this exploration. It is a journey into the unknown.

Of course, if you have read the words on my website and my dance with cancer, you can see what precipitated this question. However, what really brought this question out of me are the many emails I have gotten over the last couple of years from people who have tried many of the healing modalities, including allopathic, naturopathic, and alternative methods of healing, with little or no success. Or the even more emotional letters from others who want to know what to do because what they did do to kill their disease worked, but only for a while – now, it has returned. They want to know what to do.

Maybe, just maybe we are already that person who allows the natural state of health to once again to reunite with ourSelf. Maybe, health is already a big part of us but for some reason we are hiding out from it, or forgot what it feels like to again be truly healthy. Perhaps it was a gradual deterioration of our body that was so subtle that we did not recognize it or feel it moving into our body. Maybe it was a little pain in the knee, or a twinge of in the neck, or a tension around the eyes that said its ‘Hello’ to us and we accepted it as a part of just being a human. Maybe it was an emotional episode that struck fear, hurt, anger, or blame into our body. And being the good little ‘soldiers’ that we are we started accepting these hurts and pains as being part of the normal processes of being a human being – accepting them, holding on to the tension – emotional and physical – until the big bad ‘C’ word gets dropped on us by (in most cases) a stranger with a degree in medicine. Most of us were very healthy at one time, and I say that it is never too late to reclaim our health. At least if I am going to have a belief, that is the one I prefer to believe, and I am sticking to it!

That was my question, the one about “How do you become that person who can reclaim one’s health”, and I think it is a very good question. I hope to talk to others who are curious about this question. And I am certain that most people who get diagnosed with some deadly disease have asked that same question of themSelves, and could use a few answers. The goal of these words are not to give answers, but rather to discover them. One of the answers that I have suggested to mySelf that is related to this question is “It is not the responsibility of any doctor, lay person, or healing modality to permanently provide health to my being. It is my responsibility, and mine alone.” I am coming to the belief that any of these healing modalities are there for one reason only, and that is to suspend the disease long enough for me/us (if we so choose) to kick in our own natural health. In my case, it was a high alkaline jolt to my body via a baking soda molasses mixture that suspended it. My work, my job is to take that taste of health and run with it.

How did or how am I doing that? I continue to look for more ways to be healthy in my mind, my body, and my Spirit. The best way for me to accomplish this goal has been to make an effort to breathe and to relax. It sounds like an oxymoron to say “make an effort to relax” but in my case that is what I have had to do in order to truly relax. I could smoke a little dope, and that would most assurdly relax me. Or perhaps a beer or two, or even a glass of wine would relax me. But those relaxing methods are there only for giving us a ‘taste’ of what relaxation is or could feel like. The idea is to become the person who can relax on his or her own. That is a very good beginning in becoming the person who allows the reclaiming of one’s own natural health. More on this soon. I will include some of the things I have played with.

Good Night! Vernon “Vito” Johnston

I don’t know about you, but those meds the doctors put me on some 2 plus years ago slowed me down and helped to pack on forty pounds. I lost quite a bit of it with the alkaline diet I put mySelf on. However, I really wanted to swim or do water aerobics. In Anza, California is was out of the question. Walking was my prime exercise tool. I did a lot of it. It was good for me mentally, Spiritually, and physically.

Now that I am in Birch Bay, Washington I have been blessed with three different swimming pool options – all of which have ‘Water Aerobic’ programs. Long story short, mySelf and my wife go to water aerobics every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. What a gift! And what a difference it has made in the tonality of my body.

Of course, I still walk a lot. Like July Fourth’s two mile night time fireworks going walk along the bay walk. That was spectacular! This is what I posted on FaceBook:

“Holy Crap, its a war zone around here. Birch Bay, Washington is an unincorporated city, so FIREWORKS are not illegal. For a 4 mile stretch along the Bay, hundreds of people shooting off major and minor fireworks. I have not seen anything like it. It was a thing of beauty, fairly cooperative, and clean. Of course the 10 sheriff cars and one huge paddy wagon may have had an influence . Regardless, twas spectacular.”

Anyway. . . the point I am searching for is that physical exercise is good for we cancer dancers. At least it has been good for me. Very few people know this, but I was also diagnosed with some pretty bad heart symptoms around the same time that cancer knocked on my door. The water aerobics and the walking have helped move me towards health and well-Being.

For those who are unable to exercise yet, (did you catch the YET?) we will talk about that later. The subject we will explore will be exercising in the mind, much like top-notch althletes do. My understanding is that the body does not differentiate between the body doing the exercise or the mind doing the exercise. The benefit is comprable.

By the way, I am no longer on meds. I have not been on meds for between 1 1/2 years to 2 years. It depends on what meds. I think it was October or November of 2008 that I started seriously backing off of the prescriptions. Of course, we all chose what to do, and that is what I chose. Vitovern
